New Year's Eve

When I think of ringing in the New Year, I think of golds, silvers and lots of champagne! For decor, I think the easier the better... imagine lots of confetti and candlelight.

Here are a few items to get your party started right:

These gold napkins are perfect for any type of event and can be used for next year's holiday season / I have several of these votive holders in silver mercury but the gold hue would be perfect to ring in the new year /  This polka dot paper is perfect for little DIY party hats. Just add a garnish to the top for festive flair / Confetti can be handmade or store bought and scattered around the tabletops / Garlands are all the rage and easy to make or buy as well

Sweater Weather

I have been trying to break out of my normal weekend wear rut of college t-shirts and leggings. As much as this pains me, I have decided the staple winter sweater will suffice. The good thing is, I haven't worn some of these in so long they are "new" to me.

Here are a few new faves:

Tis the Season

Second week of December already? I need my buffer week in November back. If someone could get on that, that would be great!

The Holidays are here at the Williams household and I am soaking it up. I did not decorate as much this year, but each morning I have found myself sitting in front of the Christmas tree. I love it!

Here is a roundup of our holiday decor:
Atlanta Folks - the wreath selection at Pike's is great; no boxwoods though :( / Gorgeous manager Aaron's parents brought us back from the Holy Land / Angel from Highlands, NC that I still love two years later

I changed it up this year and moved my paperwhite bulbs in the living room. Super pleased with the way it turned out

Candlesticks: Ikea
Votive Holders: One Kings Lane & Target

I took the less is more route with the dining room. We don't host during Christmas so it is only enjoyed by us

Mercury Trees: Pottery Barn
Votives: One Kings Lane & Target

Again, took a different approach with the mantle this year and super pleased with the result.

Lanterns: Home Goods
Candlesticks: Pottery Barn
Feathers: One Kings Lane
Votives: One Kings Lane & Target
Stocking Holders: Hobby Lobby

Holiday House

Have you started Christmas decorating yet? I am an avid believer in celebrating one holiday at a time (but I understand there are others that differ in that thought).

I am itching to change my Christmas decor up but am stumped at what to do. Where did I turn for inspiration... the Southern cult classic, Southern Living. I love over-the-top garlands and changes in the norm (a la wreath with no bow, just ribbon).

Thanksgiving 2013

Thanksgiving 2013 is in the books and December is here! Now, I just need a big push to get my Christmas decor started.

There were tons of laughs, eating, shopping and family time which was just what I needed. I even found the stamina to run my first 5k.

Hope you and yours had a great holiday!

For the Little Ones

I may not be an expert on kids' toys, probably because I have no kids of my own. But ... I was a kid at one point so I feel like I can pick out some good gifts.

The options these days spread far past the good ole Toys-R-Us and can range from reasonable to unbelievably outrageous.

Here is a round-up of a few faves:

Teepee - This Land of Nod tent is precious and perfect for both boys and girls / Calendar - This Lulie Wallace calendar would be amazing artwork for any little girls wall and the price point beats any Lulie painting. Just tear out the images, frame and arrange in a gallery setting / Anywhere Chair - The children I babysit for in high school had these and they fit their little bottoms perfectly; especially when you needed undivided attention / Personalized Plates - How precious are these plates? You can even get them in adult version too! / Blabla dolls - These little things are all over the internet so they must be hot... but kinda pricy. What ever happened to Barbie and Cabbage Patch dolls? / Lincoln Logs - A tried and true toy... I mean you can't go wrong with any building blocks set (by the way - check out the Met's online store; great items)

DIY Placecards

We are hosting my family for Thanksgiving this year so I was pretty excited I had an excuse to decorate more than usual. I went against the grain with some non-traditional blues and whites mixed with my mercury pumpkins. To top it off, I decided to add some placecards for the Thanksgiving meal.

I opted for the Wooden Leaves from Paper Source. They were unfinished which were perfect for making them reusable chalkboard placecards. It was super easy with blackboard paint I already  had.

Southern Destinations

It is no secret that I love to travel and find new places. The great thing about the South is that there are tons of options in a few hours drive.

Grove Park Inn - I have not been to Asheville in years but would love to go back. Not only for the gorgeous Biltmore Estate but for the town as well (which seems to be in Southern Living every month). Grove Park Inn looks absolutely stunning and has views to die for.

Palmetto Bluff - The Low Country area of South Carolina is on my bucket list. This resort is so gorgeous, it looks fake. The room rates are not for the faint of heart but the property looks worth every penny. Southern hospitality rolled into a five diamond award winning resorts defines Palmetto Bluff.

Serenbe - This quaint, sustainable town is just south of Atlanta so there is no excuse that we have yet to visit. Serenbe reminds me of The Waters just outside of Montgomery with its prestine houses and welcoming town center. HGTV actually had a design home here a few years ago.

Blackberry Farm - This property is nestled in the Tennessee mountains which sounds perfect enough for me. All the reviews say you feel perfectly remote with all the luxuries of everyday life. I could picture myself in one of their rocking chairs with a cocktail in hand.

Insta

If you aren't on Instagram, well then you should be. It is slightly addicting and puts Twitter/Facebook to shame. I am a visual person anyways so that is probably why it is a new fav. Here are recent fam jam happenings, via Instagram:

Top Row: I frequently visit Nordstrom Rack during my lunch break and those Kate Spade purses are calling my name / My parents gave the Hubs a hammock for his birthday and we have definitely been putting it to good use... all four of us / A couple weeks ago, I took the day off and felt so strange wearing workout clothes at 11:00 am on a week day

Middle Row: We sometimes "gift" the furry kids with the luxury of sleeping in the bed; they live it up / Three weeks ago we got our house repainted and it looked like a haunted house just in time for Halloween / Roll Tide (enough said)

Last Row: While baking three dozen cupcakes, I had a newfound respect for storebought items and clean kitchens / Winston the Lion and Winnifred the Hot Dog sporting their Halloween gear / The Hubs and I at the LSU vs. Alabama Game; a rare couple shot

Christmas Wishes: Men

To continue freaking you out with the Christmas timeline, I will bring you another christmas list... for all the men in your life. (this in no way reflects my husband's list, he actually hasn't given me one).

Men are usually the hardest to buy for in my book. I get the same gift choices each year which I typically never even buy.

Christmas Cards

I love mail so Christmas is definitely my season... packages and holiday cards. Score!

This year I decided to design my own cards (reveal to come later) but if I was to order, Tiny Prints is the only way to go! They have an amazing collection and their customer service is top of the line. I love that a designer reviews your order to make sure it is perfect! Gotta love the attention to detail!

If I was to order, these would be in the running:

Personalized Party

I am guessing I have holidays on the brain because I have been stalking some serious decor inspiration. Also with holidays, come some killer party decor!

You can go festive & bright or classy & metallic. Another holiday staple is the tacky sweater party which happens to be a favorite. Either way, make sure you add a personal touch.

After perusing the inter-web (yes I have had someone call into my office and ask me about "that inter-web thing") I found a great party site, For Your Party.

Christmas Wishes

Y'all Christmas needs to slow down. I have gotten zero presents and promised myself I would be ahead of the season this year. All the more reason to partake in Black Friday with the other crazies.

Here are a few things on my list:

Jacket - this baby looks just like a Barbour for a fraction of the price / ASOS Swing Dress - I have been so happy with all my ASOS purchases / Note pad set - I love these various sizes and gold polka dots seem the "in" design now / Hunter boots - I used to think these would frivolous; after a soaked music concert, my tune has changed / Necklace - Loving this tortoise accent / Pajamas - I could always use some new pjs

Etsy

Etsy is a great marketplace for gifts, party supplies or just unique items. Now there is some creepy stuff on the site but at the same time, some great shops.

Almost every purchase I have made has been met with great customer service and products. (one took a month longer than promised so I will not be a return customer).

Here are a few other great shops, I could purchase from in the future:

Slow Cooker: Chicken Taco Soup

People: It is soup season! The best soup is the one you can plop in the slow cooker and have it ready by  the time you get home.

I made this recipe last week and it is a keeper.

Week: On My Mind

This week has been a great (and long) week. I took off today for a mental health break (aka the day I can finally fit in at Target with all the other ladies in their work-out gear at 11:00 am).

Here are some things I have been loving lately:

1 - Gap Eversoft Sweater - This thing is supersoft and has a chicly, cheap price tag. Why do I love Gap? They have "tall" sized shirts that help out us not so vertically challenged gals.

2 - A perfectly styled tailgate... Mandy is super talented and it helped that this Alabama grad picked up a few classy, styling tips. I love my team but hate gaudy sports gear.

3 - Betrayal - The hubs came upstairs last week and took one look at the television and said "What in the world are you watching?" I responded that yes it is trashy, mindless and a little lacking in the plotline, but I love it. You could summarize it as a soap opera for night.

4 - Thank you Southern Living for already stressing me out about the Thanksgiving menu. This pie will be made.

5 - FALL! This is my favorite time of the year and it is here in full force. The high today is 52... so fall may have overshot it a little too early. I will most likely be breaking out the boots for the weekend but people please leave your parkas in the closet a little longer. (Yes, I am talking about you lady crossing the street yesterday in 65 degrees with a fur-lined down jacket.)

Erin Condren

Guess what came in the mail last week... my planner! I was so stinking excited that I have already put in all my important dates. Jut looking at the thing, I feel more organized.

Erin Condren is the way to go for all of you that are looking for planners. She has such fun designs! My favorite part of the layout are the month and day views. There are also precious stickers for important days and occasions.

A piece of advice is to order through Tiny Prints. They usually have great sales and you can save a few bucks!

- This is not a sponsored post, I am just OCD about organization -

Guest Bedroom

I am on a roll with home decor updates... contain your excitement.

Coming from an apartment with one guestroom, we had to come up with something for the extra one. Already having silk curtains from our previous living room, I was determined to use them in the new house. Just my luck, it all came together.

1 - All of the bedding came from the trusty Pottery Barn. Those stellar lamps... a lunchtime Home Goods find.
2 - I originally wanted a gallery wall of pictures of friends but then thought that could end up super creepy.... That is a lot of eyes staring at guests while they sleep. So, we choose to frame pictures of trips we have taken since our wedding. Where did that precious painting of the fur babies come from? My talented Dad!
3 - I think all the colors came together nicely and luckily worked with furniture we already had. A win in my book!

S'more Cupcakes

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw my intense baking session last weekend. The Hubs helped me bake 72 cupcakes for a work competition. Our team won with this precious S'more Cupcakes.

I recommend sticking the 24 cupcake number as opposed to feeding a football team like I did!

S’more Cupcakes - Makes 24 cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups crushed graham crackers
¼ cup sugar
5 tbsp. butter, melted
1 box chocolate cake mix, used Duncan Hines Devils Food Mix
1 package (3.4 oz) chocolate instant pudding mix
1 ¼ cups milk
½ cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 full sized Hershey’s chocolate bars (1.55 oz each)
Marshmallows
Marshmallow Buttercream (see below)

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Line two muffin tins with cupcake liners.
  • In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter and sugar. Drop tbsp. amount of graham cracker mixture into each liner and press down to form crust.
  • Bake crust for 4-5 minutes and transfer to wire rack.
  • Place the cake mix, pudding mix, milk, oil, eggs and vanilla in a large mixer bowl.  Blend on low speed for 1 minute to mix ingredients. Scrape down sides.
  • Increase mixer speed to medium and beat 2 minutes.
  • Pour into cupcake liners, on top of graham crusts.
  • Bake according to time on back of cake mix box (approximately 18-21 minutes) or until set. Set aside.
  • Break Hershey's bars into small pieces and melt on stovetop over boiling water. Stir until melted.
  • Spoon a tbsp. amount of chocolate on top of each cupcake, spreading to cover.
  • Chill cupcakes in fridge until chocolate is set.
  • Mix together Marshmallow Buttercream (recipe below).
  • When chocolate is set, frost cupcakes (or frost before serving)
  • Top frosted cupcakes with desired amount of marshmallows. Brown marshmallow tops with cooking torch.
  • Enjoy!

Marshmallow Buttercream
½ cup butter, room temp.
1 cup Marshmallow Fluff
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk

  • Mix butter and Fluff until smooth on medium speed until smooth.
  • Slowly add in powdered sugar with mixer on low.
  • Add in milk and turn speed up to medium and mix until all combined and smooth.

Pinterest is becoming a problem. I haven't opened a cookbook in months, I dream of DIY projects and am supplied with the perfect decor for every party imaginable. So... this actually seems like a good problem to have.

Haute Papier

I love a good party.... and even better, a stunning party! I am a true believer that it is all in the details.

Saying all that, I think it all starts with the paper. From the invitation to the follow-up thank you note, it sets the tone for the event.

Want a formal party? Throw in some embossing and Southern script. Want a fun event? Feature bright colors and modern fonts.

Haute Papier has some great products from beginning to end. I see some of their products in my future. The best part is they have a "Haute Box"- think Birch Box with paper. Amazing-ness!

Dining Room

I love a formal dining room and am so glad I can share with y'all. I would say we are officially done content with this room (let's be real, you are never done).

BEFORE

AFTER
Lately, I have had an intense love of blue and the ginger jars definitely fulfill that void. We also have a lovely new chandelier after 14 months of dangling wires (a perk of buying a foreclosure). The curtains were made with love by Mom.

I truly do love this room!

Hattan Home

It is no secret I love online shopping and came across a precious site recently (thanks to Natalie's mention).

Hattan Home has some great finds and at some great price points.

Throw - Love the pom-poms touch; would be perfect for a nursery / Glass urchin - this is a great accent piece / Gold notebook - gold + paper = enough said / Votive - a table full of these would be amazing / Notecards - Rifle Paper Co. wins again

Fall Decor

Last weekend, we trekked up the road to Burt's Pumpkin Farm (only the best place ever)! We managed to score a great loot in record time (like 16 minutes from entrance to exit).

Burt's is great but a mecca for families. I mean I love family and all but do you really have to plop your newborn on top of every pumpkin for a photo opp? (You can all call me out on this when I have a bambino myself). The best part is the kids throwing pumpkins... when the sign says handle with care; this is all taking place while the parents are fighting over which pumpkin to put at the front door... cheap entertainment, I tell you!

Here a few fall decor pics from around the Williams casa:

We are hosting our first big holiday this year and I could not be more excited. I wanted to have some fall touches but incorporate my china and new blue dishes (I thought after three years, the china should finally get some use). I give you a Mercury-inspired fall tablescape.

I love the Cinderella pumpkins and love some at the front door (note: we usually don't have huge arrangements in our foyer; this was an anni. surprise from the Hubs).

I am not a huge Mum fan but broke down for some red ones for the front door. The cotton wreath was an online purchase after an epic DIY fail. (Pinterst totally let me down on that one).

Happy Fall Y'all!

RTR

Describe fall in the South with one word. If you said "football," we are on the same page. Fall in my household consisting of a football-full DVR and Saturdays planned around SEC match-ups. Thank goodness for the 21st century and iPhone compatible game streams.

With fall football comes fall football fashion... As in you try not to recycle any outfits that consist of your favorite team's colors. I mean these games are usually documented on every social media channel, people!

Luckily, the Crimson Tide has some great fashion options... and when I mean great, I mean one that appeals to black attire (disclaimer: if you love houndstooth, go on with your bad self; me... I think it is way overused in the 50 mile radius of Bryant - Denny Stadium). You can't go wrong with black anytime, anywhere.

1 I have this dress in black and LOVE it / 2 Great dotted shirt / 3 Elephants... duh / 4 This jacket is divine; if only it will ever feel like fall / 5 A twist on the normal gameday dress but has the red to make it work / 6 I mean if we are talking about wants, I will throw this one in there

Purse Perfection

I treat my purses like perfection. As in I baby them completely.

The hubs was a sweetie and got me a gorgeous Tory cross-body for Christmas one year. Well, the sucker turned blue after several wears. After searching everywhere, I turned to Pinterest. Much to my surprise I found a secret that worked for me. (I say "me" because it worked for me but may not work for you; test on your purse first, pretty please).

Buy some face wipes with a very low amount of alcohol. I bought the store brand from my local Kroger. Test the wipe on a small portion of your purse. Wait 2-3 minutes and make sure it does not turn. If it works, wipe gently over the color-turned portions of your purse until cleaned to your liking. Enjoy!

Thank You

Today is Year Three of the Williams Family! It has been three years of firsts, joy, laughter and togetherness.

Am I gonna sit here and say it has been three years with no tears or troubles? No, we are all human and go through ups and downs every day (If someone says otherwise, they are totally fibbing). Has it been better with the Hubs by my side? Yes, in so many ways.

With all that, I want to say Thank You to my husband:

Thank you for listening to me rant about the smallest things
Thank you for always accompanying me to the mall, even though that is the last place you want to be
Thank you for always running to my rescue whether it be a bug or a bully
Thank you for picking up fresh flowers when you have to run by the store
Thank you for making my coffee each and every morning
Thank you for listening to my deepest thoughts

Thank you for being you and thank you for letting me be me

Blog Reads

TGIF (times a million). I don't know about you but I am ready for a fun filled weekend with my hubs and fur babies. Hope you have big plans too!

Now that Google Reader is gone, I keep up with all my daily reads on Bloglovin. I truly have no idea how I have come across so many, but I look forward to reading each and every one of them.

Here are a few additions to my previously mentioned favorites. And there are at least 120 more to add to that (those to come later :) ).

Tar-jay

Where can you buy a killer scarf, precious Thank You notes and wine? That answer would be none other than Target!

Seriously, I love this place. They of course have your standard staples but are killing it in their home lines lately!

You can bet my booty will probably be in line at my local store come Black Friday Thursday (whatever day it is now)!

- Target did not compensate me for this post... I am just a little obsessed with all their greatness -

Fall Favorites

It is finally starting to feel like fall... and about time being October and all! I loooove fall. Could be the cooler temps and PSLs (Pumpkin Spice Lattes), or it could be better hammock afternoons and fall foliage. Whatever the reason, Happy Fall Y'all!

Music + Mud

As part of Aaron's birthday gift, I got him Music Midtown tickets. He has always said a bucket list concert was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Well, to my luck they were added to the lineup in early June.

As it got closer to the concert, I was contemplating going. Let the boys (Aaron and our brothers) go and have a little guy time - this is what I was telling myself to make my bail-out sound better in my mind. I am truly not a high maintenance person but drunken teenagers and 8 hours of concerts started to sound a little unappealing.

This is what it looked like. After waiting for one and half hours to get in the gates (mind you we had pre-bought tickets), we walked into this. Also, visualize watching herds of people pushing down barricades and high-tailing it past security. It was like the Hunger Games with hippies. It was wet, it was muddy and it was packed.

I tried really hard to be a good sport and I will say that RHCP put on a great show. So all the fussing and pure dispair was worth it after seeing the Hubs so happy and enjoying himself.

(We had to take a foot selfie to show the gross-ness; sans John's foot)

ZARA Home

Zara.... how I heart thee! Home of my favorite work blazers is now the home of some great decor additions (actually this is not new, I am just late on talking about it).

Here are a few of my favorites that I would love to have.... seriously all online shopping should be blocked for me.

Gotta Have A Little Fun!

The Hubs would say I have a shopping problem... I would say I like to be in the know. I will note that I usually only buy things that I see me using or needing; glad we got that out and in writing :)

Saying that, it is always nice to have a little fun and get some things you would not normally buy.

We are back from the land of the Irish. Our vacation was all we thought it would be: relaxing, adventurous and one to remember!

I will leave you with a few phone snapshots until I compile the rest in a few days.

Sweet Lulie

I have already expressed my love for Lulie Wallace, but I feel like I need to again. Her works are absolutely gorgeous and never cease to amaze me. I love the bright colors and bold designs. I am kind of obsessed with her name too... adorbs.

Anywho... I got an email a few months back that she has now added landscapes to the collection. One day a piece will be mine... One day!

Packing Up

In roughly a week we will be gearing up for our trip to Ireland. Even though this summer has been a tease, the weather will still be a tad cooler across the pond. We are renting a car, but I am trying to pack an appropriate amount for me one of us to carry.

Here are a few things that will be in my bag (both old and new):

- Word of advice: Those jeans are amazing! I now have two in case they decide to discontinue them again -
