Thursday Thoughts

Y'all, I love World Market. I would equate it to a full-priced Home Goods...but their prices are still good. Where else can you buy a bottle of wine, lovely table linens and shop for furniture? I mean you can do that at Target but World Market is another great option. They have some great looking home decor pieces that look like big bucks!

Mary Tilman is waking up earlier and earlier every morning. Google is seriously letting me down in the research department. Seriously I google everything so my search history is probably pretty interesting. I have it chalked down to an early bout of the 18 month sleep regression but this sleep deprived momma is at a loss.

We HAD to find something to do last weekend and so we took MT to the pet store. You would like the kid had never seen a dog before. Seriously she has two rather large pig-dogs to bother all day long. She literally pushed adults out of the ways to squeal at the dogs. Cheap fun!

While not intentional, I have not bought a single piece of clothing for myself this month. It kinda makes me pretty proud. The strange temperatures and the influx of spring clothes could be the reason. Whatever the case, I have my eye on this Loft sweater when February hits.

Speaking of things I don't need... this cover-up. It is cute... cheap... that is enough.

I don't know if my sense of humor is appropriate for an 18 month old classroom but I love these Llama Valentines. I will most likely go the route of craft glue and applesauce but these are pretty killer.

Thursday Thoughts

TGI - almost Friday! Cheers to a long weekend with the MLK holiday! Welcome to thoughts on a Thursday, aka brain dump!

Us girls + my mom are trekking up to Charleston to visit my brother. I have only been once but it is my soul town (you know a place that you instantly love but haven't spent much time in). It is a thing... don't question it. I am ready for some yummy food and pretty scenery. Any recs are welcome!

My allergies have been crazy this week. Like I have been rocking the four-eyes look this week because I can't wear my contacts. I keep wanting to take my glasses off like are sunglasses, only to realize I can't see a dang thing with my horrible eyesight #realworldproblems

Little Miss loves animals. When I say love, I mean FREAKS out every time she hears a dog bark or even a squirrel cross the road. Thanks to Eric Carle, bears are an obsession. Her favorite video right now is a seven minute segment on farm animals. Her adoration is precious and hilarious all at the same time.

I love winter because the baggy clothes conceal fat rolls but I want spring... Brights, Florals, White. Spring clothes are hitting the stores like crazy but my pale legs and 15+ winter blubber are suggesting to hold off for another two months.

I picked up these beauties at Nordstrom Rack earlier this month (Perimeter store for you Atlanta gals). I talked myself out of them twelve times but decided to bite the bullet. Blouse + white pants + shoes + losing these 15 lbs. = perfection.

Thoughts for Thursday

Wednesday Word

While this quote comes learned with age, it never changes in what walk of life you are in.

Shopping Small

As much as I love big "Box" stores, there is something unique about a small, boutique or individual-owned store. Someone handpicked every item and worked their booty off to market it so that you can life with some adorable things.

Here are a few of my favorite things from some of my favorite stores:

Get Outta Here

Keeping with the theme of new years resolutions, the Hubs and I are focusing on couple time. As much as a date night is awesome, you don't really connect and get away from all the distractions. So I took it upon myself to research a few great three-day weekend getaways.

In addition to these previous ones, the below are great little, off-the-beaten-path locales. I love hidden gems with a quaint atmosphere. Something about being in the middle of nowhere is cozy to me (which could be borderline creepy so don't take me too literally).

Sixteen

Y'all... it is 2016! How is this possible? I mean I know how it is possible but the new year came way too fast!

With any new year comes resolutions and new beginnings. January 1st is truly a clean slate.

These past few days have made me reflect a lot on myself and my expectations of the new year. What do I want out of these next 360+ days? What do I want to change?

I am not a resolution person but I do have self-goals. The more I age, the more I realize that life is too short to settle. To truly be happy, you have to own it and take control. That starts with your environment and the people you surround yourself with. Here are a few of my 2016 goals:

Be in the moment | This was my only goal last year but I need a consistent reminder. It is so easy to pick up your phone and scroll through your feeds or check your emails one last time. It is so easy to think of the next trip to take or the next meal you will have. I am a Type A planner and usually leave nothing to chance. While this is a resume-quality trait, it is also a flaw. I can't take the time to relax and appreciate what is happening the present. This year, I vow to devote my time to those moments I am in and truly appreciate the great things my life has to offer.

Take couple time | This is definitely one that has been on the back-burner since little miss arrived 16 months ago. Sad but so true. We get caught up in work, play and life and easily miss those we love and hold dear. Until this weekend, the hubs and I hadn't had a planned date or a visit to the movies. With no family nearby, it is easy to let this one slip through the cracks. We both vowed to devote more "couple" time in the new year, whether that is time spent at home or on a weekend getaway.

Take me time | This is another one that most mommas can relate with. After all of the life duties take place, the last thing we feel the need to do is pamper ourselves. I consider the perfect me time to be a trip to Target in complete solitude but your idea of peace may differ. Whatever it be, taking the time to just sit back and relax a little is another nice thing to keep top of mind in 2016.

Take friend time | It is so easy to get caught up in my own life to simply forget those precious people in my life. I need to make a more conscious effort to drop a sweet card in the mail or send a quick text to say hey. A girls weekend would be another nice treat that I may need to push for as well :)

Savor the little things | Nothing against SAH mommas but as a working mom, I know I miss a lot. I know I didn't witness Mary Tilman's first step or first word. I know I am not the one who taught her how to eat with a fork or drink from a cup. I know I miss a lot and that makes me appreciate the things I do see. The past 16 months have flown by only to make the next months so bittersweet. She will never be the age she is today so I am trying to make more of an effort to appreciate the little things.

Do what makes you happy | I am a people pleaser by nature but have come to realize, you can't make someone else happy if you aren't. Life is too short to be content. I know 2016 has some exciting things in store and they are making me really happy to see what is to come.

2016 - I am ready for you!
